- Cut French bread at an angle to make longer sandwiches. Cut 12 half inch thick slices, or thicker if you would like.
- Butter one side of each piece of bread and toast on a griddle.
- Remove roast beef from consomme and place on half the French bread slices.
- Place sauteed onions on top of roast beef.
- Break provolone cheese in half and place 4 halves total on top of onions.
- Finish it off by closing up the sandwich and use remaining consomme for dipping.
