- Wash the turkey, place them in a pot. Add the blended onions, ginger, garlic, fresh pepper and tomatoes to it. Add salt, cubes. Allow to steam. Add a little water. Allow to boil for few minutes. Add the scent leaf.
- Cut the yam to pieces.. Cut the plantain into two or three pieces but not peeling off the skin.
- Wash and put them in the boiling water, add salt and allow to cook
- Wash the mortar and pestle. Dry with a clean napkin. Add the grinded crayfish and salt inside the mortar.
- Remove, peel the cooked plantain and pound in the mortar
- Pound the plantain till smooth.
- Add the cooked yam and pound together.
- Pound and mix together
- Add the red oil and mix properly with the pestle.
- Serve the sweet (onunu) pounded yam with the turkey pepper soup

Onunu is a traditional delicacy from the Ijaw and Kalabari people of Rivers state usually served with a sauce. When both yams and plantains had boiled till soft, drain.
