  1. Make ready 2 cups rice cooked
  2. Take 1 cup coconut freshly grated

  4. Get 1 tsp sugar
  5. Take coriander leaves finely chopped

  7. Get 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  8. Prepare 2 pinchs asafoetida
  9. Prepare 2 tbsps dal channna
  10. Get 2 tbsps urad dal white

  12. Prepare 1 handfull peanuts
  13. Make ready 5 - 6 curry leaves

When it is done add it on the top of the rice. Add the ghee in the same kadai and fry the scrapped coconut till golden brown. Thengai sadam/Coconut rice is Sendhil's favourite rice variety. I am not a big fan of this rice.

Instructions to make Thengai Saadham / Coconut rice:
  1. Take a wok, on medium heat, add 3 tbsps of coconut oil and add all the ingredients mentioned under "Tempering", saute them until the dals and peanuts turn golden brown.
  2. Now reduce the heat, and add the grated coconut, sugar and saute this for less than a minute.
  3. Switch off the heat and add the cooked rice, required amount of salt and mix.
  4. Garnish this with coriander leaves and serve it hot with Appalam / Pappad.

So I make this only for my husband. Its very easy to make and very flavourful too. My Mom & MIL makes it very well. They make in a slightly different way. My MIL adds lot of soaked & roasted urad dal.
