Pepper Gravy / Milagu Kuzhambu - a healthy, flavorful and tasty gravy made with pepper and other spices, which is apt for rainy and winter season. Pepper is used as a cold remedy for centuries as it helps to relive the cold symptoms by killing the pathogens! This pepper gravy is my moms special recipe for cold & cough and it works like a charm.

The ingredients needed to make Pepper kulambu (gravy):
  1. Make ready 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  2. Take 1/2 tsp Methi seeds
  3. Make ready 2 tsp Coriander seeds
  4. Take 1.1/2 tsp Pepper corns
  5. Take 1.1/2 tsp Toor dal
  6. Make ready 1 tsp Urad dal
  7. Take 4 Dry chilli
  8. Make ready 10-15 Curry leaves-10-15

After having all the Diwali stuffs,all we needed is a simple vatha kuzhambu & sutta appalam for our lunch today. I usually make milagu kuzhambu in this way adding onions & garlic. Milagu kuzhambu is a tamarind a based South Indian Kuzhambu variety. This can be prepared with or without garlic.

Steps to make Pepper kulambu (gravy):
  1. In a pan dry roast above ingredients with one spoon oil till u get aromat smell. Cool down and grind in to fine paste by adding water.
  2. In a pan add sesame oil-1/4cup, mustard seeds, cumin seeds-1/4tspn; methi seeds-1/4tspn; curry leaves few; hing; add whole garlic 20 peels; saute well. add masala paste; tamarind paste, salt, turmeric, water and let it cooked until oil separates from the kadai. Serve hot with rice and enjoy. It's perfect lunch or dinner in monsoon tym😀
  3. You can store this in fridge for one month. Make sure u saute well and add litbit extra oil. Don’t use any oil except sesame oil.

Its absolutely your choice to use it or not, but i prefer adding garlic. Here is a Sunday pepper chicken recipe, my mom used to make this pepper chicken gravy for Biryani and white rice as well. Pepper Kulambu is a spicy and tasty gravy well goes with hot rice. The flavor of garlic and pepper blends with flavor of gingley oil/ sesame oil will give a heavenly taste. Its a very good recipe to treat cold and also comfort to stomach.
