  1. Prepare 1/2 cup Basmati Rice -
  2. Get Coconut Milk - as needed ( I used less than 2 cups)
  3. Get 3/4 cup Sugar needed

  6. Make ready 1 cup Bengal gram dal Cooked
  7. Make ready Ghee greasing for the bowl

Steps to make Kinnathappam:
  1. Wash and Soak basmati rice for 3 hours. Now drain them and add it to the blender. Pour in coconut milk slowly and grind them to a smooth batter. Pour the batter into a bowl.
  2. In the same blender add egg, sugar and cardamom powder. Blend them so they are combined. Pour this into the batter bowl.
  3. You can adjust the consistency of the batter by adding more coconut milk. If you take the back of the mixing ladle and draw a line using your fingers, the line should stay there. But the batter on both sides of the line should not be too thick.
  4. Grease a steel bowl with ghee.now strain the batter and pour it into the steel bowl. Add the cooked gram dal to the batter.
  5. Place this over a pot of boiling water. Cover and cook for 20 to 25 mins. You can press the top of pudding with your fingers to see whether it is cooked.
  6. Remove them and cut into wedges. And serve

This is one of the Eid specials and is a traditional dessert made especially during special occasions. Pour it in a tray and steam cook for half an hour.
